Toowong Private Hospital is Brisbane's leading private mental health care
facility, making it an excellent choice for patients with mental illness. Our caring
and understanding team offers a range of programs to inpatients, day patients
and community patients.
To be granted admission to Toowong Private Hospital, all patients must be
referred for treatment. This referral must be made by a psychiatrist who has
been given admitting and clinical privileges by the Toowong Private Hospital
Board.
If you do not have a psychiatrist, or if your psychiatrist doesn't have admitting
and clinical privileges, you may seek a referral to a psychiatrist who has been
given these privileges. Your General Practitioner or psychiatrist will generally be
able to help you with this. If your General Practitioner would like assistance in
organising a referral to one of our psychiatrists, the General Practitioner can
ring the Hospital's Doctor Assist service on 1300 131 243.
Once a referral has been received, the psychiatrist can then arrange an
assessment determining the type of treatment you may benefit from and
whether Toowong Private Hospital is an appropriate service and environment to
meet your clinical needs.
If it is determined that you would benefit from admission to the Hospital, the
psychiatrist would then contact the Hospital to organise this. Timing of an
admission to the Inpatient Unit is subject to the availability of a bed. You may
also want to check with your health insurer regarding your level of cover prior to
an admission.
